No More Bitcoin (BTC) Donations Would be accepted by Greenpeace over Environmental Concerns

Blaine Matta May 22, 2021 2 min read

Ever since Bitcoin (BTC) started picking up the pace by the end of 2020, many concerns have been raised about the nature of Bitcoin (BTC). In recent months, mainstream institutions and environment-concerned people have started viewing BTC differently.

At present, Bitcoin (BTC) is viewed as “Blood Money”, which means that it is being acquired through sources harming the environment. Over time, the mainstream institutions have changed their name from Proof-of-Work to Proof-of-Burning.

This is gradually becoming a growing concern and view among mainstream institutions. Even the concerned firms have their way and level of dealing with Bitcoin’s current situation. It is a fact that if some firms see a profit in Bitcoin (BTC), they would acquire BTC, despite the environmental concerns.

However, there is one particular organization that is dealing with the situation even though it is the only way for it to acquire funds. The name of the organization is Greenpeace that has adopted a firm stance against the usage of Bitcoin (BTC) mined through environment harming energy sources.

Among many other firms and organizations, Greenpeace is an organization that had adopted cryptocurrencies back in 2014. The organization had adopted it witnessing the adoption rate of cryptocurrencies all over the world.

Despite all the resistance and negative feedback from mainstream institutions, the cryptocurrency industry was constantly gaining world recognition. Therefore, Greenpeace went with the idea of adopting cryptocurrencies as a mode of donations.

Out of all the cryptocurrencies adopted, Bitcoin (BTC) was the first-ever cryptocurrency that Greenpeace adopted for receiving donations. The organization has recently made an announcement in regards to dropping Bitcoin (BTC) from its channels for accepting Bitcoin (BTC).

Greenpeace announced that ever since the concerns over the mining of Bitcoin (BTC) emerged, it had been closely monitoring its market. The organization had been paying really close attention to the mainstream institutions.

Greenpeace wanted to ensure that it had enough evidence around the claims made by the institutions over Bitcoin’s nature. According to Greenpeace representatives, they had received several reports confirming the nature of Bitcoin (BTC).

When the situation became obvious and Bitcoin’s nature being environment harmful entity was proven, it was no longer an option for Greenpeace. The very foundation of Greenpeace is about caring for the environment and the beings living on planet earth. Therefore, it was no longer an option for Greenpeace to adopt Bitcoin (BTC) and keep it on their platform.

As per many analysts, Greenpeace has come to the conclusion of dropping Bitcoin (BTC) after the recent announcement made by Elon Musk. Musk announced last week that Tesla would no longer accept Bitcoin (BTC) as a mode of payment on their platform.
